The University of Minnesota women's soccer team and new head coach Mikki Denney Wright kick off their 2004 campaign against Northern Iowa on Sunday. The match at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium begins at 1 p.m.
In addition to a brand new coaching staff, the Golden Gophers also add nine newcomers to the roster to go along with 13 letterwinners. Minnesota returns four of its top five scorers, along with its top two goalkeepers. The Golden Gophers will also be bolstered by the arrival of senior Regina Moench. A three-time all-conference honoree at Creighton University, she transferred home to finish out her career at Minnesota.
Moench will join Haley Lentsch and Becky Dellaria up front to give Minnesota three of the top forwards in the Big Ten. Lentsch became only the second freshman in school history to lead the team in scoring in 2003. Dellaria had the second biggest point increase in school history as she went from one point as a freshman to 16 as a sophomore in 2003.
