The Golden Gopher soccer team (3-2-0) was defeated by Montana, 2-1, in Boise, Idaho, on Saturday afternoon. The Grizzlies (3-1-1) took a 2-0 lead with a goal in the final two minutes of the first half and another in the first three minutes of the second half. This was the first time since 1999 that the soccer team played a match on consecutive days.

With less than two minutes to play in the first half, Sariad Faville beat a Golden Gopher defender and scored to give Montana a 1-0 lead. Following intermission, Nikki Bolstad scored from 16 yards out in the 47th minute to make the score 2-0.

Minnesota cut the lead in the 78th minute off of a header by Regina Moench from a pass by Becky Dellaria. Moench, a three-time all-conference selection at Creighton, collected her first goal as a Golden Gopher since transferring to Minnesota during the offseason.

Montana outshot the Golden Gophers 14-8 in the contest with an 8-4 edge in shots on goal. Minnesota's Molly Schneider made six saves in defeat.

"It's disappointing that we were not able to have back-to-back solid efforts," head coach Mikki Denney Wright said. "I was happy to see our team get back in the match, but in the end it wasn't enough. We're going to have to perform better with the Big Ten season beginning."

Minnesota returns to the road this weekend as it begins Big Ten play. The Golden Gophers face Indiana on Friday night and Purdue on Sunday afternoon.
