Women's Golf Captures Second Straight Minnesota Invite Title

The University of Minnesota women's golf team captured its second straight Minnesota Invitational title Sunday at the Les Bolsad U of M Golf Course. The Minnesota 'A' Team fired rounds of 309-306-318=933 rallying from a shot down entering the final round to defeat the Gopher 'B' team (308-306=322) by three shots.
Senior Terra Petsinger won her second consecutive individual crown besting teammate Sophie Stubbs by seven shots. Petsinger fired the best round of the day by any competitor with a 1-over 73 for a three-round total of 222. Stubbs, playing for the 'B' squad, recorded her best finish as a collegian and lowest three-round score of 229. The Gophers swept the top five spots with junior Sarah Butler finishing third at 230, sophomore Samantha Braschler in fourth at 233 and sophomore Louise Fleming fifth at 234. Fleming also notched a career-best finish and low three-round total.
Other top-20 Gopher finishers included freshman Emily Brand tying for seventh at 238; sophomore Lindsey Somrock, playing in her first collegiate tournament, tying for 13th at 244; junior Jessica Thomas tied for 16th at 246 and sophomore Brittany Willborg finished 18th at 248.
