Stephens tied for second on the team in scoring with a career-high 64 points in the championship season. Stephens scored 22 goals and 42 assists and had a plus/minus rating of +57, setting a school record for best plus/minus rating in a single season and tied Wendell for assists in a season. A WCHA and NCAA All-Tournament selection, Stephens scored six goals and had two assists in postseason play. She enters her senior season with 64 goals and 78 assists for 142 points, ranking sixth in Golden Gopher history.
Wendell set the school record for points in a season with 78. She led the team in goals, power-play goals (11), short-handed goals (6) and game-winning goals (9). A first-team All-American and Patty Kazmaier finalist, Wendell ranked third in the nation in points per game (2.17), goals per game (1.00) and assists per game (1.17). A first-team All-WCHA honoree, Wendell scored 45 league points to be named the WCHA Player of the Year. She also garnered most valuable player and most outstanding player awards in the WCHA and Frozen Four tournaments.
The defending national champions open the season on the road at North Dakota, Oct. 8-9. Minnesota plays UND at 7:05 p.m. at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D. The Maroon and Gold hosts St. Cloud State, Oct. 15-16 for their home opener.
