Alex Goligoski Named Preseason All-Rookie by Inside College Hockey

A second-round selection by the Pittsburgh Penguins at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Goligoski finished fourth in the state among defensemen in regular season scoring last season with 47 points in 25 games. Goligoski was a 2004 Mr. Hockey finalist, an AP all- state selection and the Duluth News Tribune Player of the Year for Grand Rapids High School in his senior season. Following his prep career, Goligoski played 10 games for the Sioux Falls Stampede of the United States Hockey League (USHL).
Goligoski and the Golden Gophers open the 2004-05 season on Thursday, Oct. 7, with an exhibition game at Mariucci Arena against the University of Calgary. Minnesota's regular season begins Oct. 9 at the Xcel Energy Center with the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game against defending NCAA champion Denver.
