A native of Gilbertville, Iowa, Reiter defeated 11th-ranked Jason Borrelli of Central Michigan at 133 pounds in Minnesota's 20-18 win in the first round. Reiter took a 4-3 lead in the match on a takedown. Borrelli was injured on the move and was forced to default.
In the Golden Gophers' 21-16 upset of No. 2 Michigan in the quarterfinals, Reiter gave Minnesota a 12-0 lead with his pin in 4:04 against 17th-ranked Mark Moos. An NCAA qualifier a year ago, Moos was ranked as high as fourth in the country at 125 pounds before moving up to 133 pounds last month.
Reiter claimed the biggest win of his brief Golden Gopher career against third-ranked Mark Jayne of Illinois. With the match tied at three in the third period, Reiter took the lead on an escape and scored the deciding takedown with 18 seconds to go in the match to claim a 7-4 decision.
Following a forfeit win against Central Michigan in the consolation semifinals, Reiter capped off his perfect weekend with a 1-0 decision against sixth-ranked Matt Ciasulli of Lehigh. Following a scoreless first period, Reiter rode Ciasulli for the entire two-minute second period. The two-minute advantage in riding time would prove to be the difference in the match.
The first four-time Iowa state champion to wrestle for Minnesota, Reiter leads the Golden Gophers with a 26-3 record. His 10-0 dual meet mark also paces Minnesota as he has accounted for nearly a quarter of the Golden Gophers' dual meet points (44 of 181).
Reiter and the fifth-ranked Golden Gophers open Big Ten play against No. 15 Michigan State on Friday night and No. 7 Michigan on Sunday. Both matches will be held at the Sports Pavilion.
