The Gophers were led by senior Guillermo Alvarez, who won the vault with a score of 9.65 and took third on the pommel horse and in the all-around with a score of 54.025.

"Guillermo had a solid performance tonight and was among the top five in almost every event," said first-year head men's gymnastics coach Mike Burns. "He gave us a strong effort across the board, which was great for this being only our first meet.

"We started strong tonight, but just didn't have quite enough gas to finish, but I feel good about how we competed. I see a lot of potential out of this team and we are definitely on the road to where we need to go," said Burns.
