Fall Fever

10/13/2005 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball

All of us guys are getting our share of school work in when we're not playing basketball. It feels like I have just been living in the library the past few weeks. I'm taking some pretty tough classes, but hey that's college right?

Basketball has been going real good so far. We have a team with such a good work ethic and we are once again a group of selfless players who always put the team first. Besides waking up at 6 a.m., a couple of days a week for conditioning we have individual work in the afternoons. This is when we split up into a couple of groups and work a lot on defense, play 3 on 3, and do a bunch of different drills. We have also been continuing to lift weights to keep our strength throughout the season.

The past two days we have been doing just a lot of learning plays and trying to prepare ourselves for this weekend when our official practices start up. This Friday we commute up to Brainerd and go to work. This is a great opportunity for us to bond as a family and get better as a team. Last year, we worked extremely hard up north. We practiced twice a day, for a couple of hours each session. Being up north is good for us because it really helps us concentrate and just kind of block the outside world out for a little while because pretty much all we do is play basketball. It really helps our team out in the long run.

As for me I'm doing well. I'm just keeping real busy between basketball, class and trying to see my family and socialize of course. Mainly all of the guys on our team hang out with each other because we live together and are such good friends. But sometimes we all like to go our separate ways. It's been fun for me this year because my best friend from high school transferred up here from Arizona State, so I've been hanging out with him a lot.

I've also been trying to go home once every couple of weeks to see my family which has been great. It’s good to just head home and let things slow down a little bit. We are constantly on the go, so home is kind of a place to relax and just think about what I've done that week. So I love it. I also flew out to Detroit for the past weekend to visit my dad for the first time in the past month. It was great to see him and it was a lot of fun to watch his team play. They are very talented so I'm hoping for the best for him this season.

While in Detroit I went to the Gopher football game and it was unbelievable. It was amazing to how many people fit into the “Big House.” After being there I saw that it would be awesome if we had an on campus stadium here. It was awesome to see the Gophers get a big win!!! Congrats to the Gopher football team for getting that little brown jug back. Anyways thanks for listening and until next time God bless.....
