top-rankThe Golden Gopher soccer team is already the surprise of the Big Ten Conference with a 6-3-0 record. Minnesota will look to pull off its biggest surprise tonight in its home finale against top-ranked Penn State at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. Tickets are just one dollar for the match which will begin at 7 p.m.

This is the first time the Golden Gophers will face the nation's top-ranked team. In 1996, Minnesota dropped a 2-0 decision against second-ranked North Carolina. This is only the third time since 1993 that the Golden Gophers will host a team ranked in the top five nationally.

Penn State comes to town this weekend with a perfect 17-0-0 record and clinched its eighth-straight Big Ten title with a 9-0-0 record. The Nittany Lions have the nation's longest winning streak at 17.

After collecting just five Big Ten wins from 2002-04, the Golden Gopher soccer team is in fourth place in the league with a 6-3-0 record. Minnesota's defense has led the way with a miniscule 0.83 goals-against-average.

That defense will get the ultimate test on Friday as Penn State's Tiffany Weimer comes to town. Weimer broke the Big Ten record for career goals last weekend as she collected the 83rd of her career. A leading candidate for national player of the year, she has scored a goal in an NCAA record 17 straight games.

In addition to the one dollar admission fee, all kids under 12 years of age dressed in costume will receive free admission. There will be trick-or-treating for the kids prior to the game. Friday's match will also be Senior Night.
