SERIES RECORD
Minnesota holds a 24-3-1 all-time record against the Buckeyes, dating back to November of 1999. The 1999-2000 season marked the first year of varsity ice hockey for OSU and the first year of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Minnesota's last loss against the Buckeyes came in the WCHA Championships in March of 2001 when the Gophers fell, 4-0. The lone tie between the two schools came on February 20, 2004 when they tied 1-1 in Columbus, Ohio.
THE LAST TIME
Minnesota earned a 7-1 win over Ohio State in the WCHA semifinal game last March in Ridder Arena. The Gophers had 10 players score a point in the win, including Natalie Darwitz, who had three goals and one assist. The Maroon and Gold exploded, scoring three goals in the first twenty minutes of play and an added four in the second period. Lyndsay Wall started things off, scoring a goal at 6:05 of the first period. Darwitz netted the first of her three goals at 14:08 of the first period. Ashley Albrecht scored her third goal of the season on a power-play attempt at 19:02 of the first. Liz Palkie opened the Gophers' four-goal second period at 4:44, firing a slap shot from the point. After Ohio State scored a goal, Darwitz scored a goal at 15:43 of the second period. Darwitz completed the hat trick with a goal 1:03 later at 16:06. Erica McKenzie put on the finishing touches of the Gophers' scoring with a power-play goal at 18:47. Jody Horak had a stellar night in goal for the Gophers. In 23 shots, Horak stopped OSU in 22 chances.
SCORING THE HAT TRICK
Sophomore forward Bobbi Ross scored her first collegiate hat trick last Friday night against Minnesota Duluth. Until the trio, Ross had two games in which she scored two goals, including a two-goal performance against Providence in the NCAA Regional game on March 18, 2005. The last Gopher to earn a hat trick in a game was Natalie Darwitz in the 7-1 win over Ohio State during the WCHA Championships last March.
