It marked the sixth time in the last seven years that the Golden Gophers have finished in the top 25 in the final poll. Minnesota finished No. 2 last year, No. 4 in 2003, No. 11 in 2002 and 2000, and was No. 16 in 1999.
Minnesota has been ranked in the top 25 for the past 41 weeks dating back Oct. 20, 2003. With their appearance in the top 25 on Nov. 7, the Golden Gophers broke the school record of 35 straight weeks in the top 25 that was set from Oct. 13, 1999 to Oct. 29, 2001.
There were five Big Ten teams ranked in the final poll. Penn State was the highest ranked team at No. 5, followed by No. 10 Wisconsin, No. 17 Purdue, No. 21 Minnesota and No. 23 Ohio State.
The Big Ten finished with the second-highest total of teams in the top 25. Only the Pac-10 had more with six teams in the poll.
