MGYM: Gophers Fall To Hawkeyes 217.325-213.400

Gopher senior gymnast Guillermo Alvarez earned two individual titles, finishing first on floor exercise with a score of 9.800 and capturing the pommel horse title with a mark of 9.300. Senior Clinton Mays gave the Gophers their third individual title as he won the still rings with a score of 9.700.

The loss to the Hawkeyes snapped the Gophers' two-meet winning streak. Minnesota had defeated Michigan and Illinois-Chicago on consecutive weekends.

"Tonight was a setback for us considering what we had accomplished last weekend against Michigan," said head coach Mike Burns. "We didn't quite perform like we had the past couple of weeks, but how a team bounces back from setbacks is what separates the great programs from the good ones. We learned that we still aren't quite where we want to be and we still have some things to work on, but I am confident that we will respond."

The Gophers return to action next Saturday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. against Oklahoma for their final home meet of the season.
