BB: Minnesota Hosts Pro-Alumni Game Feb. 5

The Minnesota baseball team will host the 14th annual Pro-Alumni Game on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 3:00 p.m. The Golden Gophers trail the series to the Pro- Alumni 7-5-1. Last year the varsity squad won for the second time in the last three seasons, 8-3. Highlighting this year's Pro-Alumni roster are Seattle Mariners catcher Dan Wilson, Anaheim Angels first baseman Robb Quinlan and Toronto Blue Jays reliever Kerry Ligtenberg. Former Atlanta Braves catcher Greg Olson will also be on the Pro-Alumni team. Switching sides this year are last year's outgoing seniors Sam Steidl (Los Angeles Dodgers - A) and Craig Molldrem (Florida Marlins - A). Glen Perkins (Minnesota Twins - AA) will also switch to the Pro-Alumni team.

Minnesota returns six of the nine players who received Big Ten All- Conference honors last year. Minnesota returns First-Team All-Big Ten first baseman Andy Hunter, along with Second-Team All-Big Ten catcher Jake Elder and designated hitter Mike Mee. Senior third baseman David Hrncirik, along with juniors Luke MacLean (2B) and Matt Fornasiere (SS) also were named Third-Team All-Big Ten. The Golden Gophers lose 2004 Big Ten Pitcher of the Year Glen Perkins, two-time First-Team All-Big Ten centerfielder Sam Steidl and Second-Team All-Big Ten starter Craig Molldrem.
