WSD: Gophers Conclude First Day of Minnesota Challenge

The Gopher women's swim team took to the pool at the University Aquatic Center Friday competing in the first day of the Minnesota Challenge, but with their sights squarely set on competing in the Big Ten Championships in three weeks.

Minnesota's "A" squads took first in both relay events contested on the first day of the meet. Katy Coombe, Jennifer Hasling, Krista Kezbers, and Sara Vine took the 200 freestyle relay title in a winning time of 1:35.62. The combination of Erin O'Neil, Abby Ruess, Amy Cahoy, and Coombe then took first in the 400 medley relay, clocking a 3:56.93.

Gopher relay squads swept the first four spots in the 200 freestyle relay, while also finishing one-two in the 400 medley relay.

Kate Hardt led a sweep of the first three position in the 50 meter freestyle. Hardt touched first in a winning time of 24.62, and was followed by Jennifer Chang (24.65) and Sarah Solfelt (24.81) in second and third respectively.
