WSD: Gophers Complete Competition at Minnesota Challenge

The Gophers went 1-2-3 in the evening's first event, the 1650 freestyle. Jennifer Warmington touched the wall first in 17:24.09, followed by Amy Killpatrick (17:27.15) and Sharon Leary (17:46.89). Emma Sinkler followed with a victory in the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:06.78. She was the Gophers' only competitor in the event.
Minnesota showed depth in the 100 freestyle, posting the top four finishers led by Erin O'Neil in a time of 52.30. Valerie Tukey was second in 52.50 and Katie Wind was third in 53.72.
Kate Hardt showed her versatility by dominating the field in the 200 breaststroke. She easily won in a time of 2:21.42. Teammate Lauren Levandoski was third in 2:27.12.
Michelle Omdahl cruised to a win in the 200 butterfly in 2:09.18. Jenna Matzke was second in 2:11.76 and Killpatrick was third in 2:12.14.
The Gophers return to competition Feb. 16-19 when they travel to Bloomington, Ind. for the Big Ten Championships. Minnesota looks to improve on its fifth place finish from 2004.
