GEN: Golden Gophers Send Three Teams To Respective Big Dances

Three University of Minnesota athletic teams earned bids to NCAA Championships, Sunday, including the men’s and women’s basketball teams being selected in the same season for the first time in school history. The Gopher men earned the eighth seed in the Syracuse Region and will face Iowa State, Friday, in Charlotte, N.C. Minnesota is making its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1999. The Gopher women will host first and second round games at Williams Arena, Saturday and Monday. Minnesota, the No. 3 seed in the Tempe Region, will play St. Francis, Pa., Saturday. Game times for the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments will be announced on Monday. The Gopher women’s hockey team was also selected to the eight-team women’s hockey field and will begin defending its national championship on Friday with a first-round match-up against Providence at Ridder Arena. Game time for the women’s hockey game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
