MTF: Distance Medley Relay Qualifies for NCAA's
3/4/2005 12:00:00 AM | Men's Track & Field
Ryan Ford, Aaron Buzard, Ben Hanson and Erik Grumstrup posted a provisional qualifying time of 9:37.37 while competing Friday during the first day of the Alex Wilson Invitational at the Loftus Center on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. The Gophers' squad finished tenth among an incredibly deep field in which 18 of 20 DMR squads broke either the automatic or provisional NCAA qualifying standard.
With one final chance to record an NCAA qualification, the U of M foursome clocked the fifth-fastest time in school history, crossing the line in a time more than six seconds faster than the provisional standard.
All four relay team members return to the track tomorrow to compete in individual events; Buzard in the 400 meters, Ford and Hanson in the 800 meters and Grumstrup in the mile. The running events on Saturday start at noon.
