goaThe Golden Gopher soccer team overcame a steady rain and posted a 3-0 victory over its alumni team on Saturday afternoon at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. Minnesota scored a pair of first-period goals and added a second half marker in the victory.

"It was great to see our alumni show up to play despite the weather conditions," head coach Mikki Denney Wright. "A lot of these players were on Big Ten Championship and NCAA Tournament teams so it's great to have them still involved in our program."

The Golden Gophers got on the board 14 minutes into the match. Becky Dellaria stole a pass from alumni goalkeeper Julie Eibensteiner and scored from 15 yards out. Minnesota added a second goal when Dellaria's centering pass found Megan Fightmaster out front. She scored in the 25th minute of the match.

In the second half, the Golden Gophers increased the lead to 3-0 with five minutes to go in the match. Kaitlin Neary's corner kick resulted in a header by Hailey McCarthy. Her shot was blocked by an alumni defender, but Tierney Palmer-Klein was there to slam home the rebound.

Minnesota concludes its spring season with the Gopher Spring Classic next weekend at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. The Golden Gophers will face Creighton on Saturday at 6 p.m. Minnesota will meet Iowa State on Sunday at 9 a.m. and Iowa at 4 p.m.
