SOC: Gophers lose hard fought battle 1-0

TheApril 23, 2005 – The Golden Gopher soccer team lost a hard fought battle 1-0 against Creighton University in their opening game of the Gopher Spring Classic. The Golden Gophers were out-shot 11-5. The five shots on goal were taken by two Gophers, junior Laura Hoppe with three, and junior Becky Dellaria with two.

Junior goalie Molly Schneider recorded 10 saves, a few of which were quite acrobatic. The Creighton goal came with 23 minutes left in the game. The Golden Gophers best chance at a goal came with 16 minutes to go in the game when a Becky Dellaria shot was saved by a Creighton defender, while their goalie was away from the net.

The Gopher Spring Classic continues tomorrow, with the Golden Gophers facing Iowa at noon. Iowa defeated North Dakota State University 2-1 in the 4 p.m. game.
