Apr.Minnesota sophomore John Gaub (South St. Paul, Minn.) was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for Monday, Apr. 25. It marks the third time a Minnesota pitcher has claimed the honors this season.

Gaub, who claimed the honors for the first time in his career, joins Loberg (who has won it twice this year) as Minnesota pitchers who claimed the honors this season.

This weekend against Northwestern, Gaub did not give up an earned run in four and two thirds innings of work, earned two saves, allowed just two hits and struck out 11 batters. Gaub came in on Friday night with the score at 9-8 and pitched one and a third shutout innings, while striking out five of the seven batters he faced.

He picked up his second save of the weekend, when he pitched a perfect one and two thirds innings and struck out four batters after coming into the sixth inning with the score at 3-2. In the final game of the series, Gaub entered the game in a save situation with the bases loaded with one out with Minnesota up 11-6 in the eighth inning. He got Mark Ori to ground into a double play to end the inning. Gaub also got two outs in the ninth, before he was removed after going over the desired pitch count for the day.

Gaub enters the week with a 2-0 record, a 1.20 ERA, five saves and has struck out 52 batters in 30 innings. He has a 15.60 strikeout-per-nine inning ratio, and a 5.78-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
