WTR: Gopher Women's Hurdlers Third at Drake Relays

The Drake Relays highlight several relays only contested at the prestigious event. Such is the case with the 4x100-meter hurdle shuttle. The Minnesota women’s hurdle shuttle relay concluded the Drake Relays competition for the Golden Gopher with a third-place finish. The contingent of Liz Woolford, Dawn Solberg, Melissa Steele and Shari Schutz teamed to run a time of 56.51 seconds.
The Gophers also competed at the Macalester Invitational on Saturday and collected seven first-place finishes. Sophomore Vanessa Schwanke led the way winning the 400-meter hurdles in 1 minute, 3.78 seconds and the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 4 1/2 inches.
Also winning events at the Macalester Invite were Andrea Smith in the pole vault with a height of 12-6, Sarah Nelson in the long jump with a distance of 19-0, Liz Podominick in the discus with a throw of 156-4, Nina Cotolupenco in the hammer with an effort of 171-2 and Ruby Radocaj in the javelin with a toss of 135-7.
