Minnesota will host Illinois in a four-game series at Siebert Field on May 13-15. The first game will take place Friday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, May 14 at 2 p.m. and a single game on Sunday, May 15 at 1 p.m. Illinois enters the week with a three-game lead in the Big Ten over second-place Iowa, and has a five-game lead over Minnesota who is tied with Purdue for third place. Illinois is 18-6 in Big Ten play, and has a 8-4 road record in Big Ten play this season. Illinois also has an overall record of 31 -14-1. Minnesota enters the week with a 13-11 Big Ten record, and is 24-23 overall. The two teams have not played at Siebert Field since Apr. 19-20, 2002. In that series, Illinois won two of three handing Minnesota what was its last series loss at Siebert Field. The Golden Gophers won three of four at Illinois last year, and split at Champaign in 2003.
Minnesota had its Big Ten consecutive series streak snapped a 24 against Purdue on Apr. 29-May 1. However, the Golden Gophers head into this week having won or split the last 13 home series they have played. Minnesota has won all three home series this year, sweeping a four-game series against Michigan at the Metrodome and winning three of four against Indiana and Northwestern this year at Siebert Field. Minnesota carries a 10-0 -3 (win-loss-split) record into this weekend’s series.
