MTF: Swenson Qualifies for NCAA Championships in Javelin

Sophomore Adam Schnaible launched a personal-best shot put throw of 58-1, taking seventh in the event. Schnabile must now wait for a possible at-large bid to the NCAA’s based on performances from the other three regional sites.
Among Friday’s highlights on the track, sophomore Aaron Buzard qualified for tomorrow’s 400-meter dash final with the sixth-fastest preliminary time, clocking 46.96 seconds.
In other track events, senior Ryan Ford just missed qualifying for the 1,500 meter final, finishing 13th in a time of 3 minutes, 48.20 seconds. Sophomore Antonio Vega finished 15th in the 5,000-meter run, recording a time of 14:36.19.
A trio of Gophers competed in the high jump, led by Bryant Howe's 11th-place finish. The senior co-captain cleared 6-11. Fellow senior Josh Paulson finished 13th with a clearance of 6-9. Junior John Albert also cleared 6-9, but finished in a tie for 14th due to previous misses at a lower height.
Seniors Curt Schoenfelder and Andy Tilstra both failed to qualify for the finals of the discus throw, each marking only one of their three throws. Schoenfelder recorded a distance of 158-1, while Tilstra marked 150-6.
Travis Brandstatter, who has automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in the decathlon, also competed in the javelin at Regionals, placing 11th with a throw of 190-2.
Action resumes Saturday, starting with field event finals in the men’s hammer throw at 3 p.m. Running finals begin at 5 p.m. with the 4x100-meter relay and continue through the final of the 4x400-meter relay which is set for 8:15 p.m.
