WTF: Women's Track Competes at NCAA Regional

Andrea Smith led the Golden Gophers with a seventh-place finish in the pole vault. Smith, who will have to await a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, cleared a height of 12 feet, 6 inches.

The Gophers had two athletes compete in both the 400-meter hurdles and the 800-meter run. Seniors Melissa Steele placed ninth in the hurdles with a time of 59.42 seconds, while senior Shari Schutz was 19th in 1:02.43. Freshman Gabriele Anderson finished 12th in the 800 meters in a clocking of 2:08.83, while junior Mollie Hupp was 14th in 2:10.07.

Completing the contingent of Gophers competing on Friday were junior Nina Cotolupenco and senior Liz Woolford. Cotolupenco placed 16th in the hammer with a throw of 174-3, while Woolford was 16th in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.20 seconds.

The NCAA Midwest Region Championships conclude on Saturday.
