Timeline and Checklist on Becoming a Golden Gopher Golfer
Sophomore Year- Work hard in school and on the golf course
- Play in as many competitions that you can and have fun
- In the spring, write a letter of introduction and send a resume with an upcoming summer schedule to schools that you may be interested in attending
- Request a questionnaire from schools you are interested in. (NCAA rules allow a coach to send you a questionnaire and camp brochure before Sept. 1 of your junior year)
Junior Year
- Continue to work hard in school and improve your golf while competing as much as possible on the state and national levels.
- Set your goals and determine where you want to be in five years
- Begin to narrow down your choices of potential schools
- Register and take the ACT or SAT
- Register for the NCAA Clearinghouse
- During the winter, send an updated letter, resume, and upcoming summer schedule to potential schools.
- You may also communicate with coaches through email at this time
Senior Year
- Late summer before your senior year send a final resume to potential schools and make contact with coaches to make an official visit to their school in the fall.
- Make visits (NCAA allows 5 "official visits" and unlimited "unofficial visits") to campuses and talk with coaches and student-athletes
- Find the right place for you and make your decision
