Incoming freshman Dustin Schlatter has been named a first-team selection on the 20th annual Asics All-America Wrestling Team. Schlatter was the 2004 Asics Wrestler of the Year and is the only repeat selection on the 2005 first team. Jayson Ness was second-team All-America selection.
Schlatter became the 14th four-time state champion out of the state of Ohio this past February. He has also won a total of six Junior and Cadet National Freestyle and Greco- Roman titles. Schlatter is expected to wrestle at 149/157 for the Golden Gophers. He is the younger brother of current Golden Gopher C.P. Schlatter, who was one of the top recruits in the country in 2003.
Wrestling for Bloomington Kennedy High School, Ness won his second state championship in late February. He finished his career with a 161-14 record. Considered one of the best 125/130 wrestlers in the nation, he was a 2004 Junior National Champion in Greco-Roman, and a runner-up in freestyle.
