The basics:

Name: Ashley Mutchler
Year: Will be a sophomore in 2005-06
Hometown: Coon Rapids, Minn.
Events: Competed on vault, beam, and floor as a freshman in the 2005 season.

Q&A with Ashley:

What’s your favorite food? Apples

Favorite movie? Love Actually

Favorite musical group/band? Right now, Rascal Flatts

Favorite summer activity in the Twin Cities? Going to the beach

Favorite winter activity in the Twin Cities? Snowmobiling with my dad

Favorite sport other than gymnastics? Volleyball

Favorite event to compete in? Vault and floor

What is one word your teammates would use to describe you? Chipper

If you could be on any reality TV show, which one would you want to be on? Fear Factor

If you won a million dollars, what is the first thing you would buy? A sports car

Before a competition, what do you do to prepare yourself for the meet? I do a lot of visualizing, and we always play loud music in the locker room and dance.

What is something you always pack to take with you on a road trip? Clothes and CDs

How did you choose your major? First I wanted to go into elementary education, then I changed my major to nursing. I want to tend to people in a more hands-on way. I plan to be a pediatric nurse, I love babies.

What has been the most challenging thing about your college experience? The first semester when I was learning to manage my time between classes, practice, homework and free time.

What is the best bit of advice that you’ve received from the coaches? Always give it your best, whether it’s gymnastics or anything else.

What advice would you give to the incoming freshmen? The first year is such a learning experience, don’t expect that you’ll be able to anticipate what it will be like, because it’s so different from what you’re used to.

What are you working on over the summer to get ready for the 2006 season? I’m working on bars. I wasn’t able to compete on bars last year because of a shoulder injury, but it’s a lot stronger now, and my training is going really well.

What are your goals for the upcoming season? I would like to be an all arounder, and I want the team to make it to nationals.

What do you see yourself doing in 10 years? I’ll be working as a nurse, be married, and maybe have kids. I might move somewhere warm for a change.
