WSD: Gophers Conclude USA Swimming Speedo Champions Series

Kate Hardt, who won the 400-meter freestyle event yesterday, followed her winning performance with a sixth-place finish in the 200 free today. Hardt touched the wall with a time of 2:24.40, bettering her preliminary time of 2:25.78. Incoming freshman Jenny Shaughnessy finished 11th overall with a time of 2:25.74. Jamie Howard competed in the C Final, finishing 23rd overall with a time of 2:29.87.
Incoming freshman Kate Orbon finished seventh overall in the 1500 free, clocking a time of 17:55.42. Jennifer Warmington placed 28th overall, completing the event in 18:47.03.
Minnesota's strongest event of the day came in the 50 free. Jennifer Hasling and Sarah Perrott both competed in the A Final, finishing seventh and eighth overall. Hasling finished in an Open qualifying time of 27.21, while Perrott finished also with an Open qualifying time of 27.27. Jennifer Chang finished 30th in the event with a preliminary time of 28.03.
Katie Wind, Julia Quinn, Lindsey St. Martin and Perrott teamed together for a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay. The foursome combined for an Open qualifying time of 4: 25.84, almost making the national qualifying time of 4:25.49. Minnesota's B team of Hasling, Mary Patrek, Howard and Hardt finished seventh overall with a time of 4:28.90.
Minnesota's next action will be the U.S. Nationals, held Aug. 3-7, in Irvine, Calif. p>
