MBB: 2005-06 Golden Gopher Men's Basketball Schedule Announced

basis.The University of Minnesota men’s basketball program announced its 2005-06 schedule today. In all, 22 of the 27 regular season games will be broadcast on either a local or national television basis.

The Golden Gophers will appear on national television at least four times this upcoming season, beginning on Nov. 30 at Maryland as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Minnesota’s game at Arizona State will be shown nationally on Fox Sports Net, beginning at 9:30 p.m., local time on Dec. 5. The Border Battle with Wisconsin has been selected by ESPN as a national broadcast on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 6 p.m., at Williams Arena. The Gophers will be back on CBS for the first time since 2003-04 with a home game on Sunday, Jan. 29, vs. Indiana scheduled to tip at noon.

FSN North will carry 13 games this season, nine of those Big Ten Conference contests. FSN North has the home opener vs. North Dakota State on Friday, Nov. 18 as well as games versus UNLV on Dec. 10 and UAB on Dec. 14. KSTP-Ch.5 or KSTC-Ch. 45 will carry five Saturday intra-conference games as part of the ESPN Regional Big Ten basketball weekend package.

Minnesota will begin regular season play with three games at home in November with North Dakota State, Tennessee-Chattanooga and Gardner-Webb visiting the friendly confines of Williams Arena before traveling to College Park, Md., for their its first meeting with the Maryland Terrapins since 1961. Minnesota’s other nonconference road game will be at Arizona State on Monday, Dec. 5. The Gophers then return home for a seven-game homestand which extends through the Christmas holidays and the beginning of the Big Ten season.

Minnesota begins the Big Ten slate at home vs. Northwestern on Saturday, Jan. 7, and plays host to Wisconsin on Jan. 10. Minnesota will play Ohio State and Penn State only once on the road in Columbus and State College. The Gophers will not have to travel to East Lansing, Mich., or Bloomington, Ind., but will host Michigan State and Indiana at Williams Arena. The Big Ten Tournament returns to Indianapolis this season from March 9-12 at Conseco Fieldhouse.
