MHK: Golden Gophers Announce 2005-06 Men's Hockey Schedule

The University of Minnesota has released its 36-game regular season men’s hockey schedule for the 2005-06 campaign. The 2005 NCAA National Semifinalists will open the regular season with a four-game homestand, beginning with a non-conference series against CCHA opponent Alaska Fairbanks on Oct. 14-15. The Golden Gophers then open the 2005-06 WCHA schedule with a home series against intrastate rival Minnesota State on Oct. 21-22. Minnesota kicks off the season with an exhibition game against the University of Alberta on Thursday, Oct. 6.

The Golden Gophers will head to Michigan and Michigan State for the 13th annual College Hockey Showcase on Nov. 25-26. Canisius, UMass-Lowell and Union will visit Mariucci Arena for the 15th annual Dodge Holiday Classic on Dec. 29-30. Minnesota will face Union in the first round at 7:05 p.m., and regardless of the outcome, will play at 7:05 on the second day.

The Golden Gophers will open the New Year with a non-conference series at Mariucci Arena against Niagara on Jan. 6-7, before closing out the season with seven WCHA series. Highlighting the Minnesota road schedule is a Feb. 10-11 trip to Michigan Tech and its annual Winter Carnival.

In the 28-game WCHA schedule, the Golden Gophers will not host St. Cloud State or Michigan Tech at Mariucci Arena. Minnesota will not travel to Colorado College or Minnesota State. The Golden Gophers will close out the regular season at home vs. rival Minnesota Duluth on March 3-4.

The 2006 WCHA Final Five will be held for the sixth straight season at Xcel Energy Center on March 16-18, 2006. The NCAA Regionals on March 24-26 will be held in Grand Forks, N.D., Green Bay, Wis., Worcester, Mass., and Albany, N.Y. The 2006 NCAA Frozen Four will be played at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wis, on April 6 & 8.

All home games are scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m., except for the Jan. 21 game vs. Colorado College, which will begin at 3:05 p.m.
