Athlete Profile: Gymnast Andy Cornelius

Name: Andy Cornelius
Year: Will have sophomore eligibility in 2005-06, will be a junior academically
Hometown: Woodinville, Wash.
Events: Competed on bars during her freshman season in 2005

Q&A with Andy:

What’s your favorite food? Seafood, any kind. I miss having fresh seafood in Minnesota, but my parents are great about making sure I get to have some when I'm home.

Favorite movie? Pulp Fiction

Favorite musical group/band? Bob Dylan

Favorite TV show? Friends

Favorite summer activity in Minnesota? Time at the lake

Favorite winter activity in the Minnesota? Snowball fights and sledding

Favorite sport other than gymnastics? I like to watch college basketball. I try to make it to games here, but it's sometimes hard to get to games since our season is going on at the same time.

Favorite event to compete in? Bars

What is one word your teammates would use to describe you? Spastic

If you could be on the cover of any magazine, what would it be? National Geographic

If you could take a vacation to any place in the world, and you didn't have to pay for it, where would you want to go? Italy

If you won a million dollars, what is the first thing you would buy? A red Ferrari

When you were growing up, who was your hero? My dad

Before a competition, what do you do to prepare yourself for the meet?I take a shower and listen to loud music.

What is something you always pack to take with you on a road trip? Chapstick and dental floss

How did you choose your major (nutrition)? I would like to do research after I graduate.

What has been the most challenging thing about your college experience? Getting through my shoulder injury. I came in injured my freshman season, and it was hard getting back into competition shape.

What is the best bit of advice that you’ve received from the coaches? Trust your coaches, trust yourself, and trust your teammates.

What advice would you give to the incoming freshmen? Always go to your teammates if you need anything, your sisters are there to help.

What are you working on over the summer to get ready for the 2006 season? I started vaulting and hope to compete on vault this season. I've also been learning a new dismount on bars.

What are your goals for the upcoming season? I want to compete in more events and do everything I can to help the team get to nationals.

What do you see yourself doing in 10 years? Being happy.
