Gopher Gold Team Claims Minnesota Invitational Title

The Minnesota Gold Team claimed the team championship this afternoon at the Minnesota Invitational held at Les Bolstad/University of Minnesota Golf Course. The Gophers fired a final round 299 to win by six shots over Montana and the Minnesota Maroon team. Senior Sarah Butler carded an even par 72 in the final round to win the individual title. She finished with a 224 after rounds of 75-77-72.

Southern Illinois was fourth (942) and Bradley finished fifth (946). The field consisted of 14 teams.

Butler claimed the first individual medalist honors of her collegiate career and posted a career-best 54-hole scoring mark of 224. Her final round 72 also tied the best 18-hole score of her career.

Between the Gold and Maroon team, eight Gophers finished in the top 20 of the 84-player field. Freshman Suvi Mantyniemi placed second overall, three strokes behind Butler. She fired rounds of 77-76-74 (227). Senior Lindsay Somrock fnished fifth at 231 while junior Samantha Braschler and senior Jessica Thomas tied for ninth at 234. Thomas carded a final round 74. Junior Sophie Stubbs and freshman Young Na Lee tied for 13th at 235 and freshman Sydney Liles tied for 20th at 237.
