"It's such an amazing feeling. This is every college player's dream to win a tournament," said Turner. "It makes it even better to have the entire team experience success as well. This makes all the hard work we put in worth it."
"I felt I got off to a bad start, but felt great after the first three holes," Turner continued. "I didn't have any real bad mistakes. That last bogey was not the nicest way to finish, but you cannot complain if you come out ahead."
Turner edged our teammate Josh Persons, who carded a final round 73 Sunday, Mark Haastrup of Georgia State and Alex Prugh of Washington by a shot. Freshman Annti Ahokas tied for sixth at 2-over 218 after carding a 75. He clinched the title for the Gophers with a critical up-and-down on 18.
"It was a very strong field, and it was such a wonderful weekend," said head coach Brad James. "It was a perfect ending to come out ahead. It wasn't pretty in the end, but I thought overall the team played brilliantly."
Junior Bronson La'Cassie was again solid on Sunday recording a 73and tying for sixth with Ahokas. After a tough start to the day, sophomore Clayton Rask caught fire on the back nine and birdied four of the last five holes en route to a 78. Rask finished tied with teammate Michael Fiedler in 51st place at 22-over 238.
Persons led the group of Gophers playing as individuals at even-par 216. Senior Ryan Paulson tied for 14th at 5-over 221. Freshman Robert Kelley tied for 30th at 231 and freshman Victor Almstrom tied for 38th at 232. Freshman Patrick Datz tied for 46th at 237 and freshman Andrew Paulson was 53rd at 239.
Minnesota continues its fall season Oct. 3-4, at the Big Ten/Pac 10 Challenge in Evanston, Ill.
