Carleton Wins Griak Women’s Maroon III Race

Carleton College (Minn.) packed its scoring runners in the top 25 finishers to score 93 points and capture the team title in the 2005 Griak Women’s Maroon III Race on Saturday. The Knights finished as Griak runners-up in each of the last two seasons and won the event in 2002.

Concordia (Wis.) senior Amanda Kuca won individual honors, covering the 6-kilometer course in a time of 21 minutes, 56 seconds, a Women’s Maroon III record. Kuca placed third in the race a year ago. Gustavus Adolphus’ Hailey Harren was second, posting a time of 22:22.

“It was a good day to race,” said Kuca. “It went how I planned it. I wanted to go out hard – that was our whole team’s strategy. It made me a little tired for the rest of the race, but it was good to get that first mile done fast.”

Carleton’s top finisher was Katherine Meyer in 13th place (23:36), followed closely by Katherine Wingert in 16th (23:43), Kristi Nixon in 19th (23:48), Sarah Schillaci in 20th (23:53) and Lindsey Nietmann in 25th (24:04).

Wisconsin-Eau Claire, led by Molly Warner in 11th place (23:26), placed second as a team with 112 points. St. Olaf was third with 114 points.
