Wisconsin-LaCrosse Women Wins Griak Women’s Gold Race
The Wisconsin-LaCrosse women won their first Griak title, cruising to the Women’s Maroon II Race with 60 points behind the performance of individual Julia Rudd. The Eagles leave the Griak as double winners as the men’s team captured the Griak Men’s Maroon Race. Black Hills State finished second with 141 points.
Rudd ran to a new Griak record in winning medalist honors. The senior covered the 6-kilometer course in a time of 21 minutes, 56 seconds. Minot State junior Genevieve Binsfeld placed second in a time of 22:11.
“I’m excited,” said Rudd. “I have run here five times, so I really wanted to win it.”
LaCrosse packed all five of its scoring runners in the top 25 finishers. Kristen Painter finished second among the Eagles in ninth place (22:58), followed by Amy Belleba in 17th (23:23), Meagan Herlache in 20th (23:24) and Kristen Howe in 25th (23:40).
The Eagles’ double victory is the third time in Griak history that a school won both men’s and women’s race in the same season. The other two schools that accomplished the feat were NCAA Division I schools Wisconsin in 1997 and Providence in 1998.
