9/27/2005 12:00:00 AM | Women's Cross Country
Minnesota junior Emily Brown has been named the Big Ten Conference Runner of the Week, the Conference office announced today. Brown was Minnesota’s number-one runner at the Griak Invitational last Saturday, pacing the Golden Gophers past six nationally ranked teams to a runner-up finish. Individually, Brown placed ninth overall clocking a time of 21 minutes, 17 seconds, a personal best and the eighth-fasted 6-kilometer time in school history.
Brown, a West Allis, Wis., native, is the second Gopher to capture the Big Ten weekly honor this season. Senior Lauren Williams earned Co-Big Ten Runner of the Week honors two weeks ago when she won the Oz Memorial Run.
The Gophers, currently ranked No. 11 in the FinishLynx Division I Women’s Cross Country National Poll, will split their squad between two meets this weekend: the Blugold Open on Friday (Sept. 30) and the South Dakota State Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 1).
