Chris Rombough Places Second at Jim Drews Invitational

Sophomore Chris Rombough finished second at the Jim Drews Invitational, hosted by Wisconsin-LaCrosse in West Salem, Wis., on Saturday. Rombough covered the 8-kilometer course in a time of 24 minutes, 10.12 seconds. The Golden Gophers, who rested several of their top runners, placed third as a team with 78 points.
Wisconsin, who also didn’t run at full strength, won the team title with 37 points. Portland was second with 41 points, behind the performance of medalist John Moore (24:08.29).
Freshman Mike Torchia finished 11th to record his highest finish of the season clocking a time of 24:47.32. Closing out the Gopher scorers were Justin Grunewald, who finished 20th in 24:59.78; Rick Furseth, who placed 22nd in 25:04.03; and Ben Kampf in 23rd in 25:04.04. Completing the top seven for Minnesota was Yahya Iman in 25th in 25:10.01 and David VanOrsdel in 34th in 25:26.08.
Minnesota, ranked No. 12 nationally, will travel to Indiana on Oct. 29 for its next competition, the Big Ten Championships.
