Gophers Capture DeBary Intercollegiate Title

The University of Minnesota women's golf team captured the 2006 DeBary Intercollegiate championship by one shot over second place Mercer Monday at the par 72, 6,078-yard DeBary Country Club. Minnesota entered the second day of play with a three-shot lead over Florida Atlantic and carded a team score of 305 to finish at 603. Mercer turned in a team score of 302 for the second day to finish at 604 while FAU slipped to fifth with a final score of 616 (301-317).
Individually, the Gophers were led by sophomore Young Na Lee. Lee fired a second round 73 to finish tied for fourth at 4-over 148. Freshman Leslie Grabeman recorded her first top 10 finish of her career tying for 10th at 7-over 151. Grabeman carded a 76 Tuesday. Freshman Christine Herzog tied for 13th at 8-over 152 and sophomore Sydney Liles gave the Gophers four golfers in the top 15 with a tournament score of 9-over 153. Junior Kelli Berns carded a final round 78 and tied for 38th at 16-over 160. Playing as an individual, sophomore Anne Martin tied for seventh carding a pair of 75s for a 6-over-par score of 150.
This was the final event of the fall season for the Gophers. They resume play in February at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
