Minnesota Baseball Announces 2007 Schedule

The Minnesota baseball team has finalized its 2007 schedule according to an announcement by head coach John Anderson. The Golden Gophers will face five teams that played in last year’s NCAA Tournament.
Minnesota will also play 29 of its 56 games at home this year. The Golden Gophers will play 18 games at Siebert Field and 11 in the Metrodome this season.
Before Minnesota starts the season, they will host the 15th annual Pro-Alumni game at the Metrodome on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 3:05 p.m.
The Golden Gophers will start the regular season in Charleston, S.C. where they will begin their season against NCAA Regional participant UNC-Asheville in a neutral-site game on Friday, Feb. 23 at 12 p.m. The Golden Gophers will face host The Citadel on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 2:30 p.m., followed by its third and final game against Virginia Tech on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m.
Minnesota will return home after that to host the 23rd annual Dairy Queen Classic on Mar. 2-4. The Dairy Queen Classic field will include 2006 NCAA Regional participants Ole Miss and Arkansas, along with the Citadel. The Golden Gophers will play The Citadel for the second time on the season on Friday, Mar. 2 at 6:35 p.m., Ole Miss on Saturday, Mar. 3 at 6:35 p.m. and Arkansas on Sunday, Mar. 4 at 3:05 p.m.
The Golden Gophers will then host Missouri State in a three-game series at the Metrodome on Mar. 9-11. Minnesota will start the series against the Bears on Friday, Mar. 9 at 6:35 p.m., and will also face Missouri State on Saturday, Mar. 10 at 2:05 p.m. and Sunday, Mar. 11 at 1:05 p.m.
Minnesota will then head to California for a five-game road trip. The Golden Gophers will start their trip in Santa Barbara on Mar. 13-14. Minnesota will face UC-Santa Barbara on Tuesday, Mar. 13 at 4 p.m. (CT) and Wednesday, Mar. 14 at 4 p.m. (CT). The Golden Gophers will then head to Malibu for a three-game series at Pepperdine. Minnesota will face the Waves in the opener on Friday, Mar. 16 at 5 p.m. (CT), followed by a game on Saturday, Mar. 17 at 3 p.m. (CT) and the series finale on Sunday, Mar. 18 at 3 p.m. (CT).
The Golden Gophers will wrap up non-conference play against Hartford on Mar. 23-25, before playing a midweek game against Northern Iowa in the Metrodome on Wednesday, Mar. 28 at 6:35 p.m. Minnesota will face Hartford on Friday, Mar. 23 at 6:35 p.m., Saturday, Mar. 24 at 2:05 p.m. and Sunday, Mar. 25 at 1:05 p.m.
Minnesota will open the Big Ten season with back-to-back road series at Penn State on Mar. 30-Apr. 1 and at 2006 Big Ten Conference Champion Michigan on Apr. 6-8. The Golden Gophers will play their first home series against Iowa on Apr. 13-15.
The Golden Gophers will also play home Big Ten series against Michigan State (Apr. 20-22), Northwestern (May 4-6) and Ohio State (May 11-13). Minnesota’s other Big Ten road series are against Illinois (Apr. 27-28) and Indiana (May 18-20)
Minnesota also has a pair of home-and-home midweek series with Northern Iowa (Mar. 28 at the Metrodome, Apr. 11 at Northern Iowa), North Dakota State (Apr. 4 at the Metrodome, May 15 at North Dakota State) and South Dakota State (Apr. 18 at South Dakota State, Apr. 25 at Siebert Field).
The Golden Gophers are coming off a season that saw them go 34-26 overall and finish four in the Big Ten at 17-14. Minnesota also advanced to the Big Ten Tournament Championship for a conference record sixth straight time. Minnesota returns Third-Team All-Conference and Collegiate Baseball All-Freshman team outfielder Matt Nohelty (Rothschild, Wis.). The Golden Gophers also return to Big Ten All-Tournament performers in senior shortstop Dan Lyons (Rochester, Minn.) and senior outfielder Kyle Baran (Apple Valley, Minn.).
