Freshman Sally Paulson captured medalist honors in leading the Minnesota women’s cross country team to the title in the UMD Pine Hills Invitational, in Carlton, Minn., on Saturday. Paulson, an Inver Grove Heights, Minn., native, covered the 6-kilomter course in a time of 23 minutes, 0.30 seconds, her fastest 6K time of the season by over 49 seconds. Paulson’s medalist performance anchored the Golden Gophers to a winning total of 20 team points.

Sophomore Kristin Johansen was a close second with a time of 23:01.80. With their performance at the Pine Hills, both Paulson and Johansen have earned spots on the Gophers’ roster that will compete in next Saturday’s Pre-NCAA Meet in Terre Haute, Ind.

“I was proud of the team,” said Gopher head coach Gary Wilson. “There were runners out there working hard to earn top 12 spots, yet everyone run well and with a purpose.”

Stacia Kalinoski, Jena Trask and Clare Bootsma added top 10 finishes for the Gophers. Kalinoski finished third in a time of 23:04.40, while Trask was sixth in 23:39.40, and Clare Bootsma eighth in 24:30.60.

Also competing for the Gophers were Ali Joelson (29th, 26:40.90) and Heather Horton (39th, 27:19.60) and Katie Suske (50th, 28:27.80).
