A Golden Gopher on a Roll
Chris Rombough enters the NCAA meet with a full head of steam after winning the Big Ten Conference title and finishing with runner-up honors at the NCAA Midwest Region Championships.
Rombough captured Big Ten medalist honors by covering the 8-kilometer course at Indiana in a time of 24:05. The victory marked the first Gopher to win the Big Ten crown since 1971.
The Gophers’ talented sophomore is poised to contend for All-America honors after placing second in the Midwest Region, running Minnesota’s home 10-kilometer course in a time of 30:47.19.
Minnesota Team Streak Broken at Nine
Minnesota failed to advance to the NCAA Championships for the first time in 10 years, breaking what had been the fifth-longest active streak in the nation with nine straight national meet appearances.
Three Big Ten Teams Advance
Defending national champion Wisconsin leads a trio of Big Ten teams that advanced to the 2006 NCAA Championships. Iowa and Michigan State are also in the 31-team field.
