Gopher Women's Swimming and Diving Complete Double Dual

The University of Minnesota women's swimming and diving team finished the second day of a two-day double dual against North Carolina and Richmond, today, in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Golden Gophers fell to UNC 212-158, but defeated Richmond 278-98.

After winning two events on Friday, Yuen Kobayashi won her third event of the weekend, this time in the 500 free. Kobayashi clocked a time of 4:50.48, while Christine Jennings came in second with a time of 4:54.73. It was a season-best time for Kobayashi, setting a provisional qualifying time. Kobayashi won the 200 free and the 1000 free the day before. Kait Strickland added a ninth-place finish with a time of 5:03.79.

Jenny Shaughnessy added a second-place finish in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:21.59 and Strickland added a fourth-place time of 4:28.13. Stacy Busack led the Gophers in the 100 free with a season-best time of 52.29 and a fourth-place finish, while Meredith McCarthy was right behind her with a time of 52.75. Valerie Tukey placed seventh overall with time of 53.01. Erin Forster led the Gophers in the 200 back with a time of 2:02.62, while Shaughnessy placed fourth in a time of 2:03.67.

Although the Gophers didn't win the 100 fly, they finished second and third in the event. Jennifer Chang held the Gophers' best time in the 100 fly in 57.63, followed by Danielle Ridder in 57.64, a season-best. Corina Hopkins-Vacca touched the wall in 2:24.05 in the 200 breaststroke to finished fifth.

The Gophers' 400 free relay of Busack, Shaughnessy, Kobayashi and Roxane Akradi added a second-place finish in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:27.47. Akradi and Busack also competed in the 200 free relay, along with Erin Holtmeyer and Jennifer Hasling and combined for a second-place finish time of 1:35.14.

In diving action, Minnesota had three finish in the top five spots. Alexandra Barstad added a second-place score of 294.10, followed by Brianna Hubbard in a time of 285.20. Jacqueline Schroeder chipped in a score of 264.75 and finished fifth overall.

After a week off, the Gophers return to action as they host the Minnesota Invitational, Nov. 17-19 at the University Aquatic Center.
