Lindsay Whalen has signed a professional contract to play for Urals Mining and Manufacturing Company (UMMC) in Ekaterinburg, Russia. Whalen will report to the team early this week, leaving her position of administrative assistant with the Golden Gopher women’s basketball program.

UMMC plays in the EuroLeague, a league which allows teams two American players on each roster. Whalen will replace Washington Mystics guard Nikki Teasley, who left the team for personal reasons. She will join Detroit Shock forward Cheryl Ford on the roster.

“I appreciate the opportunity that Pam (Borton) and the University of Minnesota gave me to work with the team,” said Whalen. “I’m going to miss being a part of what I believe will be a very exciting team this season. This opportunity to play professionally in Russia was too good to pass up.”
