University of Minnesota soccer player Kelsey Hood has been named to the Soccer Buzz All-Region Third Team for her performance during the 2006 season.
A sophomore from Ankeny, Iowa, Hood has been one of the Gophers’ top performers in the midfield the last two seasons and is an impact player on both sides of the ball. She tied for second on the team with four assists and ranked fourth overall in scoring with eight total points this year. On the defensive end, she helped the Golden Gophers post seven shutouts and hold 14 of 19 opponents to one goal or fewer.
Hood was the first top 100 national recruit ever signed by Minnesota. Now a captain in just her second year with the program, Hood is one of the team’s most vocal leaders on the field.
Hood adds the All-Region honor to her list of accolades for the 2006 season. She was a Second Team All-Big Ten selection and was named Minnesota’s Most Valuable Midfielder at the team’s annual season-ending banquet. Equally dedicated in the classroom, Hood was also one of six Golden Gophers named to the Academic All-Big Ten Team.
With Hood’s honor, Minnesota has now had at least one player earn All-Region accolades in consecutive years for the first time since 1999-2000. She follows 2005 Second Team selection Molly Schneider and All-Freshman honoree Clare Grimwood from a year ago.
