Gophers Close Out 2006 Calendar Year at North Dakota

GOPHERS CLOSE OUT SEMESTER AT NORTH DAKOTA
The No. 4/5 University of Minnesota women’s hockey team will close out the 2006 calendar year on the road against North Dakota, Dec. 9-10. Both games are set for 2:07 p.m. starts at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D.
ON THE DOCKET
Minnesota’s next home competition will be Jan. 5-6 when No. 2 Wisconsin comes to town. The Jan. 5 game is scheduled for 7 p.m., while the Jan. 6 games is slated for a 4 p.m. start. Minnesota will be without the services of Melanie Gagnon and Bobbi Ross in the Wisconsin series, who will compete with the Canadian Under-22 Team.
GOING OUT IN STYLE
Senior co-captain Andrea Nichols has already matched her goal output from any previous season with 10 goals. Nichols had 10 in both her freshman and sophomore campaigns and eight as a junior last year. She is five total points away from accomplishing a new career season high in points. As a rookie, Nichols established 20 points, while tallying 19 as a junior.
PLAY MAKERS
Whitney Graft and Melanie Gagnon leads the team with 12 assists, followed by Anya Miller with 11 and Jenelle Philipczyk with 10. Graft and Gagnon rank sixth in the conference in assists, while Miller is tied for 10th. Philipczyk is on a four-game scoring streak, all of which have been setups for her teammates.
BACK IN ACTION
For the first time since the 2005-06 season, Kim Hanlon started in goal for the Gophers last Saturday. Hanlon, whose last contest played was at the 2006 WCHA Playoff Championship last March, had 25 saves for her first win. The 2006 WCHA Goaltending Champion, Hanlon held a a 1.19 goals against average last season.

Minnesota holds a 10-0-0 record against North Dakota since the start of the UND program in 2002-03 season. In their last meeting, Minnesota outscored UND, 10-0, winning 4-0 and 6-0, respectively.
