Gophers Complete First Day of NCAA Championships

The 200 free relay of Stacy Busack, Sarah Perrott, Jennifer Hasling and Erin Holtmeyer bettered their 13th placing in the prelims and finished 12th overall in the county with a time of 1:31.78. Stanford won the consolation final (1:30.49), while Arizona set a NCAA record with a time of 1:27.98 to win the event.
Kobayashi competed in her first NCAA finals as a Golden Gopher when she placed 10th overall. Kobayashi clocked a time of 4:43.60 in the finals, bettering her time of 4:44.42 in the preliminary heat.
Also competing today in the 500 free was freshman Christine Jennings. She finished with a time of 4: 48.60 and 24th overall, respectively.
Jenny Shaughnessy swam in the 200- yard individual medley, placing 27th overall with a time of 2:01.57. Busack finished 22nd in the 50 free with a time of 22.93, while Perrott placed 55th in a time of 23.47. Hasling and Holtmeyer each swam a time of 23.58 in the same event and tied for 63rd overall.
The Maroon and Gold continue action tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. (ET). Events for tomorrow's championships will include the 400 IM, the 200 free and the 100 back. Katie Wind will compete in her first event of the championships as she leads the Gophers in the backstroke events. Tomorrow's finals will be at 7 p.m. (ET).
