Gophers Announce Team Awards

Kobayashi was the Big Ten champion in the 500 free and the 1650 free as well as being a member of the winning 800 free relay. A first-team All-Big Ten selection, Kobayashi was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year. In her rookie season, Kobayashi broke four school records (500 free, 1000 free, 1650 free and 800 free relay). She was also an All- American honorable mention in the 200 free (15th-place finish), 500 free (10th), 1650 free (10th) and the 800 free relay (ninth). She led the team with 189 dual meet points during the regular season.
Senior freestyler Kate Hardt was honored with the Dorothy Listina Sheppard Award. The award is given to the swimmer who best demonstrates her qualities of being a life long learner: learning things because they just want to know, values travel and getting to know those who live were you travel and simply enjoys the journey of life. The award was given to Hardt by the swimming and diving coaching staff.
The Gophers’ hardest worker awards went to Kait Strickland and Stacy Busack. The most improved went to Busack and Jenny Shaughnessy. Erica Schiffler was named the Gophers’ diver of the year. The Gophers had 14 members earn above a 3.5 grade point average this season, earning a spot on the Outstanding Student-Athlete Award. The 14 included Erin Holtmeyer Meredith McCarthy, Erin O'Neil, Shaughnessy, Katie Wind, Stephanie Gross, Jennifer Hasling, Bridget McCoy, Danielle Ridder, Lindsey St. Martin, Abby Ruess, Strickland, Cecile Lamour and Emma Sinkler.
