Golden Gopher junior Kadian Douglas captured the title in the 200-meter dash at the Georgia Bulldog Limited Meet in Athens, Ga., on Friday. Douglas posted a time of 24.87 seconds. She will run the 100-meter dash on Saturday.

Only two members of the Minnesota women’s track & field team are competing in the meet. Sophomore Liz Roehrig is in first place after day one of the heptathlon competition with 3,431 points. Roehrig opened with a season-best time of 14.44 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, second among the heptathletes, then won the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 10 inches to take the heptathlon lead. She extended her lead by clearing a season-best and NCAA regional qualifying height of 5-10 in the high jump, before closing the first day with a time of 25.40 in the 200-meter dash.

Roehrig is chasing an automatic qualifying point total of 5,500 points for the NCAA Championships. She already owns a solid provisional qualifying total of 5,274 from winning the Cal Multi-Event heptathlon in March. After the first day of that event, Roehrig had collected 3,355 points. If she earns an automatic qualifier, she will also better the school record in the event, currently held by Barbora Spotakova (2002) with 5,400 points.

Roehrig will complete the heptathlon competition with the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run on Saturday.

The remainder of the Golden Gopher squad will compete at the Musco Twilight Invitational at the University of Iowa on Saturday evening.
