In the first game, Minnesota broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Megan Higginbotham on third, Katie Meyer picked up an RBI with an infield single to short. With runners on first and second and two outs, Stefanie Watt’s fly ball to left field was dropped by Anna Nieznanski which allowed another Minnesota run to score. True freshman Colleen Conway then followed with a two-run single through the left side.
The Phoenix threatened in the top of the fifth inning as they loaded the bases with one out. Minnesota got out of the jam as Konderik started the 1-2-3 double play.
Konderik earned her first save of the season with a perfect 2.2 innings of relief. Hassett claimed the win after allowing five hits in 4.1 innings. Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Lisa Meissner took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in six innings.
In the nightcap, Dalen held the Phoenix to just four hits in six innings. She struck out six and walked one. Konderik pitched a perfect seventh inning with one strikeout.
Minnesota took an early lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, Chrissy Sward reached on an infield single. She then scored from first on Higginbotham’s double to left center.
The Golden Gophers increased the lead to 3-0 with two runs in the third inning. With the bases loaded, pinch hitter Lisa Parks delivered a two-run double to right center. Minnesota’s leader in home runs and RBI, Parks was making just her third appearance as a pinch hitter since injuring her leg against Ohio State on April 16.
Minnesota tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, Higginbotham drove in one run with a ground out to short. After Valerie Alston walked to reload the bases, Meyer was hit by a pitch to bring home the Golden Gophers’ final run.
Alston led Minnesota at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance, while six other Golden Gophers had a hit.
Minnesota closes out the Big Ten regular season this weekend when it hosts Indiana and Purdue at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium. Minnesota will face the Hoosiers on Friday night at 6 p.m. and on Saturday at Noon. Sunday’s doubleheader against the Boilermakers will begin at Noon.
