Minnesota Hosts Illinois in Big Ten Series at Metrodome

Minnesota returned home for a six-game homestand, and started with a 9-2 win over South Dakota State. The Golden Gophers return to Big Ten play when they host Illinois on Apr. 28-30. Minnesota will face Illinois on Friday, Apr. 28 at 6:30 p.m., in a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 29 at 2 p.m. and in the series finale on Sunday, Apr. 30 at 1 p.m. The Golden Gophers will also resume their game with St. Thomas at Siebert Field on Tuesday, May 2 at 6 p.m. Heading into the week, Minnesota is tied for fourth in the Big Ten with an 8-8 conference record. Illinois is also tied at seventh in the Big Ten with a 7-9 record.

Cole DeVries has given up just two runs in four starts this year at the Metrodome. DeVries pitched six shutout innings in an 8-0 win over Notre Dame on Mar. 4. He followed that up with a complete-game shutout against Ball State. In that game, DeVries threw only 84 pitches. DeVries also threw 7.2 shutout innings against Penn State in a 5-0 win. He gave up his first runs at the Metrodome in 31.1 IP when gave up two in the ninth in a 2-0 loss to Michigan on Apr. 22. DeVries has given up just two runs in 31.2 IP at the Metrodome this year.
